In real earnestness if i have to reply to this question then i need to write to you that you can do Japa with any one or more than one Mantra that you find close to your heart. But that will be the spade work. It would prepare the ground, for the Guru to come and implant the seed or Mantra on that ground for the true spiritual illumination to happen and the freedom to happen.
Till the Guru comes, you keep doing your work and keep your eyes stretched to see his coming to you or you going to him, When he accepts you as the disciple and you as the Guru then deeper journey of the Spirit begins.
Love and infinite blessings,
Baba
